Individuals are part of what has kept Blount Auto Auction in business over these many years.  We gladly welcome you to attend the auction and feel free to buy or sell.   You can find cars at our auction for the price you would pay as a down payment on the car lot.  You are buying at wholesale prices at the same place that dealers buy for you to pay retail on the lot.  If you are new to attending auctions or you plan to attend, please read the information below.

Dealers are the machine behind the auto auction business all over the country.  As dealers we require you to register with our auction.  Please bring a copy of your sales tax license, fed id, dealers license and references.  If you wish to purchase with checks we require you to also to fill out a an application for check payments.  A letter from your bank or 3 bank statements can expedite this process.  We may hold the title and/or keys of vehicles you purchase depending on the results of the application or until you are approved.

Buying

APPLICATION--We require all buyers to register in the office and fill out and application.  If you plan to purchase with a check you will also be required to fill out an application to write checks.  Depending on your application we may hold the titles and/or keys on vehicles purchased until your check clears.  If you have ever received a worthless check on a vehicle you sold you can understand our precautions.  Writing a bad check (this includes stopping payment) for a car over a certain amount is "theft by deception".  This can land you in prison for a long time.

AUCTIONS--What should you do first after registering? Plan to arrive an hour before the auction begins. Walk outside on the lot and pick out the cars you are interested.  Look them over very well both under the hood and all around.  Then when the auction begins go inside and start getting a feel for the auction chant and how the bidding works at our auction.  Following the auction chant can be tricky for a newcomer.  The chant sets the rhythm of the auction but it's easy to get lost on what the bid is and who has it.  Be sure to pay attention to the announcements before the auctioneer begins to auction the car.

FEES--Also remember when you bid you will be required to pay fees and  taxes over the bid amount.  For a schedule of fees and tax rates please see the office personnel.

ANNOUNCEMENTS--All cars are sold without a drive unless announced to have a drive.  Other terms you need to pay attention to are:  Title attached - this means the seller doesn't have the title with them.  You can ask how long it will be till you get the title.  No title or Parts Only - this means you will never be able to get a title on the car.  Salvage - This means that the car isn't legal to own and you will be required to repair all damages and have it inspected to receive a clear title.  Previously Salvaged - This means the car was once a salvage vehicle that has been repaired and has been inspected by the state and has been cleared to be legal for use.  Mileage Unknown or Incorrect - This means that the mileage is incorrect or that the odometer isn't working.  Sellers may also announce specific mechanical problems with a car as well.  They are only required to do this on vehicles that allow a test drive.

BIDDING--If a car enters that you are interested in; the best way to get the ringmen and auctioneers attention to bid is to walk up to the car.  You'll see many dealers bidding with a wink or slight gesture, it's best as a newcomer that you don't do that.  We ask that you nod plainly or raise your hand.  If you make a gesture that the auctioneer or ringman takes as a bid promptly let him know that you were not bidding.  If not you may end up with a car you weren't intending on buying.

TEST DRIVE VEHICLES--Once you have bid on a car, you have the winning bid, and the auctioneer says its sold, pick up a ticket from the auctioneer's assistant or ticketwriter.   She will ask to hold your drivers license until payment is made.  If the car you purchased was announced with a test drive you will be allowed to test drive the vehicle on the lot only.  Please do not drive at high speeds on our lot.  And be sure to watch for children, cars, and adults as you test drive.  If the seller is willing to allow you to drive the vehicle on the road it is required that he rides with you.  Do not leave our auction with a vehicle you have not purchased.  It may be construed as theft and the authorities called.

TURN DOWNS--You may only turn a car down that has been announced as a test drive vehicle for purchase, with the following conditions:  Motor (knocking, etc), Transmission (slipping, etc).  You cannot turn the vehicle down for anything you can "see" such as interior, or exterior problems, leaks, etc.  Or just for the simple fact you didn't like it. Once the test drive is finished please enter the office to pay. You must notify of a valid turn down in the office as well.  The auction will have someone inspect the car to see if the turn down is valid.

NON-TEST DRIVE OR AS-IS--If the car did not have a test drive you are to immediately walk from the auctioneers stand to the office to pay.  The office will do all of your paperwork and officially make you the owner of the car.  Once you have paid you will be able to pick your license up from the auctioneers stand by showing your bill of sale.  The keys to the car will be in it or given to you at the office.  You will also need to show the bill of sale as you leave.

NOTICES--If you leave without paying or purchase on the lot you may be required to pay fines or fees if caught as well as being banned from our auction as well as others in the southeast.  If you are approached by a seller to do your paperwork elsewhere please notify us immediately.  You could end up with a bad title or even a stolen car.  Doing your paperwork outside is wrong and is "stealing".  Our fees are minimal and allow us the ability to serve you.

ALL SALES ARE FINAL-- Lemon laws do not apply to auctions.  We do not accept returned vehicles or return fees or the purchase amounts.  If you wish to contact the seller in regards to the issues you have feel free to do so.  We are not responsible for mis-represented cars, or any promises made by the seller.  All cars are sold as-is without warranty.

Selling

VEHICLE REGISTRATION--To sell a vehicle at the auction please call ahead to reserve a space.  Try to arrive at least an hour early so buyers can look at your car.  When you arrive please stop under the carport to the left of the building so that we might get all of the information off the vehicle.  You will be required to pay an entrance fee to enter the car.  If the car has major mechanical problems, brake problems, or starting issues please notify the person registering your car.   Once the car is registered please back the car into the number assigned.  The auction personnel will drive the car into the auction when your number is up.  If you haven't attended our auction before please see the office personnel to register your information.

AUCTION--When your car enters the auction please be ready to get on the stand and tell the auctioneer your selling price and any conditions including if the car is open to a test drive.  Remember a sellers fee will be deducted from the auction price.  Once the bidding is finished the auctioneer will let you know if the car is sold and at what price.  If the car is without a test drive please enter the office promptly with your title to receive payment for the car.

NOTICES--We kindly ask that you do business only through our office.  Handing out phone numbers, doing paperwork on the lot, or even down the road will not be tolerated.  As we network with other auctions you will be banned from our facility as well as other auctions in the southeast.  The fees we ask you to pay are minimal in comparison to other auctions.  Those fees are what allows us to provide you the service of having a place to meet and the advertising costs to get those people there.  "Jumping the Fence" as it is called is stealing.  It's wrong and gives a bad impression of your company, makes you appear dishonest, and untrustworthy.
